Professor Dawson was an old friend of Jessie's parents, Amanda and Thomas Jones. Thomas, Amanda and Tobias studied archeology together. Amanda ended up working at the National Museum Gallery and became an expert on ancient relics, and Tobias and Thomas worked at the National Archeology Institute. They did most of their excavations together.
One day their excavations took a wrong turn. Digging through a small excavation site, they found an entrance to what appeared to be an ancient mine. They were excited but the night was already falling and they agreed they will continue in the morning. Tobias Dawson just woke up and saw that most of their team was already gone to the site. He was on his way to meet them when one of the locals came running to tell him the crypt collapsed and buried a part of their expedition inside.
Amanda and Thomas were never found.
Jessie was only three years old.
Since than Tobias has been like a father to her.
